According to director Shinya Kumazaki, other characters from throughout the Kirby series were considered to appear in the game as Dream Friends, specifically mentioning Prince Fluff from Kirby's Epic Yarn, Drawcia from Kirby: Canvas Curse, Elline from Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Shadow Kirby from Kirby & the Amazing Mirror, and Galacta Knight from Kirby Super Star Ultra. These ideas were ultimately scrapped after the developers decided to stick with a set of rules regarding potential additions, such as only allowing one character per game and only using characters from mainline games.
