When you reach Dragonlord, the final boss of the game, Spoiler: he will ask the player to join him. If the player accepts, he will put them to sleep and the game will freeze, forcing the player to reset the game.

In the Japanese release, the game uses passwords to resume game progress. This was replaced with a battery backup save system in the US release.
