Primal Rage
1
The Primal Rage design team implemented an unusual and largely unknown security method into the arcade machine's coding that prevented the full features of the game from becoming active when emulated. Since the original programming team has since moved on to other things, they could not be reached for questioning regarding the game's security lock-outs. Those who have been contacted expressed no interest in unlocking the ROM BIOS for freeware distribution or security corrections. For these reasons, no perfect emulation of the original arcade game exists.

In the absence of these security protections, blood would be "censored" in that it would be colored a yellowish color with a brown shading. Also, fatalities could not be performed, and many special moves were not available. Another emulation problem was the player could no longer chain attacks, which greatly decreased the chance of performing a combo. These issues even affect the Midway Arcade Treasures 2 collection, which would supposedly feature an arcade perfect rendition of the game, but instead provides a censored and incomplete version.

EarthBound
1
Attachment EarthBound features five types of anti-piracy:

• First, it will simply check to make sure the cartridge isn't being used in a PAL console.
• Second, it will perform two SRAM checks at startup.
• Third, if the first two measures are disabled, the enemies on screen will be ramped up to ridiculous levels and you will find enemies in areas they don't belong in.
• Fourth, there's another SRAM checker that is called up six times during the game. Its purpose is unknown as of yet.
• Fifth and finally, if the game detects problems after Pokey turns off the Devil's Machine, the game will erase all of your save data and freeze, forcing you to go back to reset and find all of your work gone.

Jet Set Willy
1
Attachment Like most ZX Spectrum games, Jet Set Willy was stored on a cassette tape. Simply making an audio copy of the cassette allowed people to easily copy Spectrum games. Jet Set Willy was one of the first to come with a form of copy protection: a card with 180 coloured codes on it was bundled with the cassette. Upon loading, one of the codes from the card had to be entered before the game would start. Although the cassette could be duplicated, a copy of the card was also needed and at the time, home colour reproduction was hard to do. Thus copying Jet Set Willy was trickier than most Spectrum games. However, means of circumventing the card were quickly found, and, reflecting the attitude to software piracy at the time, one method was published in a UK computer magazine.
