Attachment There is a special encounter that consists of a group of "Unwashed Villagers" fighting a character named "The Grim Reaper". This is a real world reference; one of the first fallout communities ever was called "The Unwashed Village Community" and this encounter is based off them. The people who you find in this encounter are members from the community, and actually fought a spammer name "Grim Reaper" who plagued the community for a long time, and was seen as an evil rival to the Unwashed Village Community.

The Gyroids bear a strong resemblance to Haniwa; clay figures made for ritual use and buried with the dead. This explains why Gyroids can only be obtained by digging, and also implies that you have just dug up someone's grave. This likeness is referenced in the Japanese version of Animal Crossing: City Folk, where the auction house owner Lloid is named "Haniwa-Kun".

Jaleel White, known for his acting as Steve Urkel in the 90's sitcom "Family Matters", was considered by SEGA to be the voice of Classic Sonic. Jaleel was considered because he had previously voiced Sonic in "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog", "Sonic the Hedgehog" (1993), and "Sonic Underground". It's easy to assume that Wario's name was based on turning the M in Mario's name upside down, but this isn't entirely the case. The Japanese word for 'bad' is 'warui', so Wario is actually a shortened version of 'Warui Mario' (Bad Mario). This is also the case for Waluigi (Bad Luigi), and works even better in Japan, where his name is pronounced 'Waruigi'.

Hans and his sister accidentally entered the moose's territory, and the moose attacked. Hans taunted the moose to take its attention away from his sister, and then proceeded to play dead, making the moose lose interest. In the game, 'Taunting' is used to get an enemy's attention, and 'Feign Death' tricks enemies into ignoring you.
