When Marge gets electrocuted, or if Marge uses her melee attack and gets her hair stuck in the vacuum, a pair of rabbit ears can be seen. These rabbit ears are similar to that of the rabbit characters that appear in Matt Groening's early comic strip, "Life in Hell". Several characters from this comic strip also appear as cameos throughout the game.
Marge having these rabbit ears was part of an early plot to Marge's character, in that she was secretly concealing these ears under her hair, and was actually one of the rabbits from Groening's comic. This was going to be revealed in the last episode of the series, but the team behind The Simpsons considered the idea too ridiculous and scrapped it.

The Japanese version of the game has a much more dynamic scoring system. While every defeated enemy yields one point in international releases, the Japanese release has enemies vary in points, including bosses.

Several of Konami's arcade beat-em-ups had a recurring feature common among other arcade games where if you wait too long to proceed to the next screen, the game will punish you for idling. In most games, such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time, Sunset Riders, Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa, and Mystic Warriors: Wrath of the Ninjas to name a few, the game will take away a life in one way or another for waiting too long. However, in some other games like The Simpsons Arcade Game and Asterix, the player will only take a select amount of damage for idling, and may not necessarily be enough to lose a life.
