Besides sharing a few visual similarities, the characters Axel (Kingdom Hearts) and Reno (Final Fantasy VII) share the same voice actor in multiple languages. Tetsuya Nomura did this intentionally to experiment with putting a familiar character in a new environment and role. He also stated in an interview that the two are "different people, but subconsciously alike".
Metal Gear

The game was designed as a stealth game involving avoiding confrontation due to the limitations of the MSX2 at the time. If there were a large number of character sprites on screen at one time there would be a lot of sprite flickering and slowdown. The game was instead changed to involve the player using stealth to avoid enemy confrontations.

"The company asked me to create a combat game. Actually, a senior associate had been in charge of it but he was stuck and I was asked to do it. You could not have more than four bullets with MSX, and that meant you could only have two to three enemies. You cannot make a combat game with that. So I came up with a game like 'The Great Escape' where the prisoner had to escape. it was an idea born from adverse situations." - Hideo Kojima speaking to Retro Gamer Magazine (Issue 35, Page 74)
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

During the phone-call scene between President Lyndon B. Johnson and Premier Nikita Khrushchev, Johnson mentions that the Russians refer to The Boss as "Voyevoda."

"Voyevoda" is a Russian word for "warrior", "knight in training" or "leader of an organisation", and can refer to someone in the military or government with a degree of power. When used in regards to a female, it can also mean "lady knight." As Russia has had a number of famous queens in its history, this is considered a highly respectful nickname for The Boss.
New Ghostbusters II

New Ghostbusters II was only released in Europe. There were plans to make it available in America, but Activision had the rights to make a Ghostbusters video game in the USA, so it was never released outside of Europe.

A prototype of the American version of New Ghostbusters II was eventually leaked online as a ROM and can be played via emulation.
Uniracers

Attachment The developers of Uniracers were sued by Pixar Animation Studios for allegedly copying the unicycle design from their short Red's Dream. Pixar won the case and as a result, Nintendo was forced to pull Uniracers off the shelves after distributing 300,000 units.

The Lion King

Microsoft DirectX was created in response to the PC port of The Lion King. The Lion King was released on Christmas 1994, and many children tried playing the game, but it would crash when loading. A Wall Street Journal article was published about someone spending his entire Christmas evening trying to get The Lion King to work for his daughter. Even Disney's helplines were flooded with phone calls. Many developers became suspicious of Windows as a viable platform, and stuck with MS-DOS. In response, Microsoft quickly developed the first version of DirectX for the upcoming Windows 95.
Franchise: Sam & Max

There have been two canceled games in the series. The first was an action game called Sam & Max Plunge Through Space. The game was being made for the Xbox, but was canceled before much about the game was revealed. The second game, simply known as Sam & Max: Freelance Police, made it fair into production (to the point it was even rated by the ESRB) before being canceled due to "current market place realities and underlying economic considerations." When Freelance Police was canceled, many of the employees left LucasArts to form Telltale Games so they could make episodic games.
Makai Kingdom: Chronicles of the Sacred Tome

Attachment Asagi was originally supposed to get the role of the main character in the planned sequel, Makai Wars. However, the game was indefinitely postponed, which has led to Asagi being a recurring character in many Nippon Ichi games, usually trying to steal the spot of the main character for herself.

Attachment Makai Wars is a recurring item in the Disgaea series, usually being very rare and in the possession of a powerful enemy character. This is a reference to Makai Kingdom's sequel that has been indefinitely postponed since 2004.

The "Coney Island" minigame pays homage to New York City's Statue Of Liberty. The minigame takes place atop a statue of Mario holding an ice cream cone upward.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Hideo Kojima originally wanted the Beauty and the Beast Corps to be completely naked in the cut scenes. The motion capture actors were even asked to preform the motion capture nude, though this could also not be used in the game. The Beauty and the Beast Corps were, instead, given cat-suits, which could still show off their bodies without affecting the rating.
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

Attachment During the American President Barack Obama's tour of Europe in 2008, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk gave him several gifts in celebration of his visit to Poland, one of which was a copy of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings collector's edition.

Keiji Inafune, who is often called the father of Mega Man, did not actually create him. Inafune's mentor at Capcom, who was the designer of the original Mega Man, gave Inafune a basic concept of what Mega Man was supposed to look like and he was tasked to clean up the concept for use in the game. Inafune didn't get to completely design a Mega Man protagonist from scratch until Mega Man X, where he created Zero.

Since 1999, EA has included some of the league's top players on the cover of each game. Many of these athletes have since suffered injuries or a decline in performance, leading some to believe there is a "Madden Curse"
