Attachment Nintendo ran a contest to help promote the upcoming release of the GameCube called "What would YOU do for a Nintendo GameCube?" where fans were picked to perform stunts that they'd chosen themselves to win a GameCube, Game Boy Advance, a games package, and USD. Some of the acts which were picked by entrants were to paint Nintendo logos with their tongue, juggling three consoles whilst dressed as a game character, painting and shaving themselves to be a Pikmin, and eating a GameCube made of spam, chocolate syrup, and cat food.

According to Ryota Niitsuma, producer of Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, this game was released as a stand-alone disk instead of DLC because the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan threw off their development schedule.

Niitsuma: After the release of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 there were plans to release DLC. But, as you know, less than a month after the game was released we had the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. That had an impact on everything, and it threw off our whole development schedule. We decided that instead of doing the DLC we could put it all together in one package, add some additional stuff to make it robust and deliver it as a disc.

The first book was "The General History of Pyrates," which provided a solid historical foundation for the game to use, as well using a German style of capitalizing all nouns, which Ubisoft used in the game's subtitles. The second book was "The Republic of Pirates," which helped the team establish the hub town, real life Nassau, which was a famous stopping point for pirates. The book's author, Colin Woodard, was so much of a influence that he was asked to join the development team to make the game more accurate.

It is said by Joshua Graham in the Honest Hearts DLC that the .45 Auto pistol is based on a nearly 400-year-old design from one of his Mormon ancestors and is the trademark weapon of the New Canaanite tribe. This alludes to the creator of the real-life pistol this gun is based on, the M1911, created by John Moses Browning. Like the New Canaanites, Browning was a member of the Mormon church from Utah.
