On the disc art for the North American releases of the PlayStation 3 and Wii versions, an orange Teensy Wizard can be seen that does not appear in the final game. It's presumed this was a planned playable character, evidenced by the following comment the Bubble Dreamer will make if you tug on his beard while playing as the blue Teensy Wizard:

This twin is likely referring to the orange Teensy Wizard.

In the level Golly G. Golem, there is a Golem boss you must fight to progress. In the first teaser trailer for Rayman Origins, Rayman and Globox can be seen fighting a green, mossy version of the Golem which never appears in the final game. The cover of the game still features this early design for the character.

The game started out as an episodic downloadable title. After a delayed release, the game was made into a full-retail title.

Mr. Dark, the main antagonist of the first Rayman game, was originally planned to return in Rayman Origins. Like many characters from the first game, he was intended to receive a redesign, specifically being changed into a Teensie. However, he was ultimately scrapped from the game, with his planned redesign being used for another character originating from the first game, the Magician (who also took Mr. Dark's place as the main antagonist). Despite this, Mr. Dark was made available as an avatar on the PlayStation Store.

Despite this removal, Mr. Dark is referenced during the level "The Reveal", where the player discovers the Magician's true status as the villain. Upon being discovered, he rips the golden star off his hat, showing a more clear resemblance to Mr. Dark. Additionally, several posters are seen on the walls of the Magician's lair, with one even having "♥ Mister D" written on it, suggesting that the Magician admires Mr. Dark.
