The Mongoose was originally intended to be put into Halo 2, but was cut and later reworked for Halo 3. The Mongoose prototype did not fulfil Bungie's quality expectations for Halo 2, but it was later included in the Anniversary Edition.

Took till Halo 3 for a human equivalent of the Ghost, and a human equivalent of the Banshee, but there was no human equivalent of the Chopper. Halo 2 as we know already introduced a Covenant equivalent of the Warthog, and a Covenant equivalent of the Scorpion Tank.
