When the silhouette of the Avatar in Sonic Forces was first revealed in a Nintendo Direct, many Sonic fans joked that the silhouette belonged to Bubsy, an infamous Sonic-inspired character from the 1990s. Almost a month after the Avatar was confirmed as the identity of the mystery character, Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back would be officially announced.

At the end of each level, a "level code" to unlock the next level is printed out. Notably, two of these codes are the names "MARIO" and "SONIC", which are each revealed at the ends of Levels 6 and 7 respectively.

In Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back, there is a "Verbosity" slider on the audio options menu that controls how frequently Bubsy will say his one-liners. While most percentages have nicknames such as "Occasional one-liners" or "Silent bobcat", the maximum level is simply called "Bubsy", owing in a self-deprecating manner to Bubsy's reputation as a talkative character, particularly in Bubsy 3D and the 1993 cartoon pilot.

There exists a bizarre occurrence in Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back where, when pausing on certain stages, Woolies will transform into the demon enemy from Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, and then turn back when unpaused. It is unknown whether this is a glitch or an Easter egg.

In pre-release content related to Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, it was mentioned that the game would include a bee enemy that rises upwards. This enemy did not make it into the final game, but did eventually show up in another game using the same engine, Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back, where it had a different behavior, being a directly hostile enemy that is distracted by flowers.
