There is a recent prolific strain of bootleg reproduction cartridges of Avenging Spirit that feature artwork of a ghostly Goomba from the Mario series edited over the American box art's background. This cartridge art was originally a thumbnail made for a 2013 video by YouTuber TheLonelyGoomba about the game, and was most likely used by bootleggers due to its high view count. The cartridges were reportedly known to have been circulated as early as 2017.

In the Game Boy version of Avenging Spirit, pressing up before the 4th screen of the intro appears will replace the text with "gachoon!", a reference to the catchphrase of Kei Tani, a famous Japanese comedian. This is present in all versions of the game.
