Gex's voice actor and writer Dana Gould recalled that he had written jokes that were cut from the final scripts throughout the series. With Gex: Enter the Gecko in particular, during the level Lava Dabba Doo where Gex would have fought crabs, Gould wrote a quip for him doing a Johnny Carson impression saying: "I haven't seen this many crabs since Elke Sommer's hot tub party." While this joke was removed from the final game, a similar joke would turn up in the TV series The Simpsons, specifically the season 13 episode "Sweets and Sour Marge", with Krusty the Clown saying: "I haven't seen this much flesh since Elke Sommer's hot tub party!" While Gould was not credited on that episode, he was serving as a writer and supervising producer on The Simpsons at the time.
