• The first poster, VGCW (Virtuous Gentleman Championship Wrestling) is a reference to Video Game Championship Wrestling, a web series using custom characters in wrestling games to enact a story.

• The second poster, Stanley's Pair O' Bowls, is a reference to The Stanley Parable.

• The third poster is a reference to QWOP, a flash game where the player must control a runner's legs using the Q, W, O, and P keys on the keyboard.

In the supermarket level is a display for a product called "Mintcraft". This is a parody of the game Minecraft.

In the "Gervason's Grocery" level there is a food product called "Pewdie Pie", a reference to YouTuber PewDiePie.

A board game called "Sturgeon Simulator" can be found in the "Gervason's Grocery" level. This is a reference to the game Surgeon Simulator 2013.

The inspiration for the game's controls came from the difficult controls of Jurassic Park: Trespasser.

"Gervason's Grocery" contains a video rental machine called the "Video Commander", in reference to the protagonist of the Bit.Trip game series.
