Originally, Samus was going to give an opening monologue establishing the backstory for the game. Though the narration was cut in the final product, a clip of the narration can still be found on the game's disc. It was originally thought that Samus' main voice actress in the game, Jennifer Hale, provided the narration, but she confirmed in 2025 that the narration was actually provided by Vanessa Marshall, who performed Samus' death scream for the game. Parts of this narration would later be re-recorded by Jay Ward for the song "Opening / Menu (Metroid Prime)" in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
