According to Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo was initially hesitant towards the idea behind Odama, not helped by the fact that producer Yoot Saito's initial pitch consisted simply of the statement "I want to make a pinball game set in feudal Japan." It wasn't until Saito created a demo of the game that they were convinced to publish it.
