The German version of Half-Life was censored to avoid a USK 18 rating. All the human soldiers were replaced with robots, and when a scientist or security guard is shot they just sit on the ground. Blood splatters from humans were colored yellow, although the blood textures on the environment were not changed, and the aliens still have red blood. Gina's, Gordon's, and the scientist's models were replaced with a helmeted version of Gordon's model to make them look less human. Half-Life's entry in the German index of censored games was eventually removed in April 2017, allowing Valve to distribute the game in Germany in its original state.
