Grand Theft Auto V

One of Steven Ogg's influences when he was portraying Treavor Philips in the game was actor Tom Hardy; specifically Hardy's performance in the 2008 film Bronson.

"He was able to walk that line of psychopath and entertainer while maintaining his sense of humor in some pretty dark places. I'm always inspired by intensity and those that take great pride in what they do - be it an actor, painter, musician, writer, or arborist."

As well as some music which Ogg would listen to, to help imagine Treavor.

Franchise: Dead Rising
1
The idea for Dead Rising came about while Resident Evil 4 was under development. Keiji Inafune, lead developer for the series, was concerned that the idea of traditional slow zombies would die out, as the zombies in Resident Evil 4 were now able to run, use weapons, and talk. He wanted to create a game in which the slow zombie type was more prominent than any other character in the game.

Richard Waugh, the second voice actor for Albert Wesker, was inspired by the Walt Disney villain Shere Khan from "The Jungle Book".

My kids were toddlers at the time and we had been watching a lot of Disney films. As soon as I read Wesker I thought, wouldn't it be cool to have this military-type have a really cultured, chocolaty voice like George Sanders in The Jungle Book. Wesker is basically my version of Shere Khan.
Viva Piñata
1
Attachment Viva Piñata originally began as a game called "My Garden", and later "Amazing Garden", for Microsoft's Pocket PC PDA mobile phone. Players could attract animals to their garden and trade them with other players. Development was later moved to the Xbox with the prototype running within Grabbed by the Ghoulies and later onto the Xbox 360. The decision to use Piñata animals was made when the game's concept artist, Ryan Stevenson, looked at the original animal designs which reminded him of Piñata which he'd seen in a Mexican restaurant in New York.
Kirby's Epic Yarn
1
The game was originally going to be a different IP called "Fluff's Epic Yarn". According to Etsunobu Ebisu, the original idea came from Madoka Yamauchi. The idea was presented to Nintendo after the developers at Good-Feel were done finishing the design document for the game. Nintendo asked the developers if they'd make it into a Kirby game, as Prince Fluff's design was similar to Kirby's.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Attachment Early in the game, the scene where The Boss and Naked Snake are seen reaching out to each other from the Hind chopper and on the ground respectively was originally going to be different. According to Hideo Kojima in the MGS3 commentary, this scene was originally going to have The Boss release her bandana to the wind for Snake to catch, which he'd then use as a sling. However, the scene was changed because one of the motion capture actors requested that they change when Snake acquired the bandana to when The Boss throws him down into the river prior to this scene.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
1
Attachment The idea to make The Wind Waker in HD came from the developers playing around with the Zelda HD Experience tech-demo. They used the same lighting from the demo on Link's The Wind Waker model, and his appearance had such a strong impact that they started to do the same with The Wind Waker's environments as well.

"We took the various versions of Link from the Zelda HD Experience, [Skyward] Sword and The Wind Waker and lined them up in the same setting. We used practically the same shader and brought out the same shading, and Link from The Wind Waker made an overwhelmingly strong impact. He exerted some kind of unnatural pressure." - Satoru Takizawa

Pac-Man
1
It's believed that Pac-Man's design came from a pizza with a slice removed. According to the game's designer, Toru Iwatani, this is only half true. The other half of the design comes from the Japanese character for mouth, kuchi (口), which he rounded out to make it into a featureless ball. An idea to give him eyes was brought up during development, but was dropped to make sure Pac-Man wasn't over complicated.
