Writer for gaming website Giant Bomb, Jeff Gerstmann, was angry after the likeness of his character, "Dr. Tracksuit", which he fights as in the annual "PAX Wrestling" events, was used in the trailer for WWE 2K16.

Gerstmann went to Twitter to express his frustration over the appearance:

"Kind of not OK with someone using something similar to my likeness to promote a franchise that has been so terrible for so long."

2K Sports later re-sent out the trailer to game media outlets with the footage taken out.

Hulk Hogan was originally meant to appear in the game, however plans were changed for him not to appear in it after it was found the wrestler allegedly used racial slurs in a leaked sex tape.

Hogan's ties had since been severed with the WWE due to the incident with all references to him removed from their official website.
