2K games held a contest for fans to design their own covers and submit them online, with the winning design being printed as an alternate reversible cover. Mike Rodriguez's design won for North America, and was featured in all North American game cases. Alexis Zankowitch's design won for Europe, and was featured in all European game cases.
"Rowdy" Roddy Piper was originally going to be an official playable wrestler, and would have featured his Wrestlemania 1 and 2 matches in the "30 Years of Wrestlemania" mode. However, 2K could not reach an agreement with Mr. T, who faced Piper in these matches, to feature him in the game, so neither were officially playable in the game. However, all of Piper's logos can be found in the WWE logos section, and Roddy Piper's face/body are selectable in WWE Faces mode.
Through the use of a glitch, it is possible to play as the non-playable managers. By entering into Exhibition/Universe mode and selecting anyone but Miz, selecting Miz as your opponent, and then backing out to re-selecting the playable character and picking Miz, the opponents being shown will now be listed as the managers. It's possible to then back out of the selection, and reassign the controller slot for player one to the second port, allowing the player to select any of the managers. Most manager entrances freeze the game, and every manager has the Default Create-a-Wrestler moveset.
