The international release on Game Gear changed the font and removed act numbers from stage title cards from the Japanese release. Additionally, the stage "Gigalopolis Zone" was changed to "Gigapolis Zone".

The Japanese Game Gear release was called "Sonic & Tails", but released as "Sonic Chaos" in all international versions.
