After the game's announcement, many players commented on how the character Taxman is represented by what appears to be a demonic version of the "Face with Tears of Joy" emoji, with some accusing the game's developers Semiwork of photoshopping the emoji for the game. In a YouTube video posted by Semiwork on April 4, 2025, they revealed that there was a plot-related reason for Taxman looking the way he did, but they declined to elaborate on it and wanted to let players discover why for themselves. However, that same video revealed that the game's Steam page would be updated to replace Taxman with the Semibots and Headman on the game's banner.
