According to brand producer Loïc Gounon, the reason why the team chose to remake Rayman Legends instead of one of the older games (i.e. the original trilogy) was because they felt Rayman Legends served as the best "foundation for the future" of the Rayman series due to aspects such as the characters and world diversity. It was also decided early on that should a world map be added to the remake, it would take some elements from Rayman 2: The Great Escape and Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc while still using Legends as the centre.
