At the end of the game Spoiler:is an old witch looking into a crystal ball, watching the prince and princess. According to Jordan Mechner, this cliffhanger was meant to set up for an unreleased Prince of Persia 3 that he was planning, where it was to be revealed that this old witch was the main antagonist of the series who gave Jaffar his powers, and was the one behind the slaughter of the prince's parents and sacking of his home city.
