Designer Tetsuhiko "Han" Kikuchi stated in an interview with Nintendo Power that the games Mad Stalker: Full Metal Forth, Fatal Fury (specifically for Guardian Heroes' three-plane combat), and the arcade version of Alien vs. Predator were the basis behind the gameplay for Guardian Heroes.
