Gex sold very well on the 3DO despite the console's limited success, although the exact sales figures are unclear. In a July 1995 press release, The 3DO Company announced that Gex was the best-selling title on the platform, with over a quarter million units sold prior to being bundled with the console. By Autumn of 1995, shortly before being released on the Sega Saturn and PlayStation, the magazines GamePro and Electronic Gaming Monthly reported that the 3DO version had sold a million units. Contradicting this, Next Generation magazine reported around the same time that sales of the 3DO console, by which time Gex was included as a bundled game, had only sold three quarters of a million units worldwide. Series creator Lyle Hall would later claim the PlayStation version sold at least a million copies.

There don't seem to be any definitive answers to how well the 3DO sold worldwide. Also, I've seen the claim that the series sold a total of 15 million, but nobody actually seems to have a source.
