Some gameplay ideas used in Resident Evil, such as an action-puzzle structure, and a restricted inventory system, were first explored in the very tonally opposite SNES cartoon adaptation Disney's Goof Troop, which was designed by Resident Evil's director Shinji Mikami. One rumor originating from a Kotaku article by Tim Rogers, who claimed to have been informed of the connection by an unspecified "genius computer programmer" friend, suggests that Resident Evil is built off of Goof Troop's source code.
