This is likely a reference to famous game developer John Romero, best known as a co-founder of id Software, and responsible for many of their most well known games, including Wolfenstein 3D, Hexen, Doom, and Quake.

In episode 4, if Max inspects the red hunting cap in the principal's office she will remark that "only a total phony would wear a crappy hat like that." This a reference to Holden Caulfield from the novel The Catcher in the Rye, who wears an identical red hunting cap and frequently calls others "phonies".

The achievement "Z-Genocider 2: Genocide Harder" is a reference to an achievement from the first Dead Rising, "Zombie Genocider". The first game's achievement was awarded for killing 53,594 zombies, which was the population of the fictional town the game took place in. Valve later made an achievement for Left 4 Dead which required killing 53,595 Infected, exactly one extra zombie. Capcom continued this long-running gag by requiring you to kill 53,596 zombies for the "Z-Genocider 2: Genocide Harder" achievement.
Dragon Ball: Xenoverse

Final Fight One

During α-Cody's pre-fight cutscene between him and Rolento, the former notices that he remembers neither the industrial area nor Rolento. Then, he remembers that he took "a shortcut" to the bay area the last time he was there. This is likely a reference to the original SNES port of Final Fight, where the Industrial Area stage (and therefore, the battle with Rolento) was cut entirely.

Likewise, the word "Tafiir" translates to "thief". This is a reference to the invented word "taffer" featured in the Thief series.
Dark Souls III

If the player uses a gesture while in front of the Fire Keeper at Firelink Shrine, she will react to it by either bowing, twirling around, laughing, or turning her head away. The "Path of the Dragon" gesture in particular makes her twirl around continuously until the player gets back up.

This is a carryover from the previous "Souls" game Bloodborne, where the supporting character responsible for helping the player level-up reacts to the player's gestures performed in front of them.
