The Famicom version of Xevious released in November 1984 was one of the earliest third-party releases on a Nintendo platform. The success of this port, combined with the release of earlier third-party ports from Namco and Hudson Soft like Galaxian and Lode Runner, helped the Famicom's sales increase from roughly 1.3 million units in 1983 to over 2.9 million units in 1984. Xevious itself would sell 1.27 million units in Japan alone.
