This game features numerous references to other series developed by Sonic Team, primarily Sonic, Nights into Dreams, and Samba de Amigo, with characters from Burning Rangers, Phantasy Star Online, and ChuChu Rocket! also being referenced. When asked if this was meant to imply that all these franchises existed in the same universe, Ian Flynn clarified that the events of the game are considered non-canon.
