In late 2003, developer Papyrus Design Group pitched a kart racer based on The Simpsons to the license holders of the series IP at the time, Vivendi Universal, but this game was never released. A likely reason for why the pitch was turned down, as revealed by former developers at Radical Entertainment who worked on The Simpsons: Road Rage and The Simpsons: Hit & Run, was that Fox and series creator Matt Groening were uninterested in kart racer pitches as they received a lot of them and felt the market for it was oversaturated. Two different builds of Papyrus Design Group's prototype were discovered and leaked in 2020.
