Leon Bronev's office has a hidden chamber in the floor containing a variety of treasures, including a skull-shaped crystal. Upon examining them, Layton will say "Admirable craftsmanship, but really, I have little interest in crystal skulls." This is likely a reference to the movie featuring another famed archaeologist, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
