During the climactic fight on top of the Empire State Building, the controls switch from King Kong destroying biplanes to Jack Driscoll aboard his plane. If you beat the game and then score 250,000 points while replaying it, a secret alternate ending can be accessed during this segment. If the player as Jack chooses to Spoiler:attack fellow planes and destroy the floodlights, a cutscene will play showing Spoiler:Kong climbing down the building. A time skip then shows Kong safely back on Skull Island as a biplane circles him and returns to a ship. This ending was approved by the film's director Peter Jackson, who was cited as saying:
"I wanted the game to be able to take the audience a bit further than what the film could, and the final climax of the game gave us an opportunity to do something that the film could not do, which was to have an alternate ending -- obviously everybody pretty much knows how King Kong ends."
