When Everybody's Golf: Hot Shots was announced, many were surprised to learn that the game would also be releasing on the Nintendo Switch, as the series was owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment, and as such all prior games in the series had been exclusive to the PlayStation line of consoles. The Switch release was the result of a licensing agreement between Sony and Bandai Namco Entertainment, who would publish the game instead of Sony. Additionally, longtime developer Clap Hanz had chosen to move on from the series, and the game was instead developed by Hyde, a company that had previously collaborated with Bandai Namco on Digimon Survive.
