On April 14, 2025, it was announced that development on Bendy: The Cage would enter a temporary hiatus, and that most of the planned content and game mechanics were being moved over to the upcoming mainline title Bendy and the Ink Factory after the team decided their current plans were too ambitious for a spin-off. Developer theMeatly had previously described the game as not being a mainline installment, but not a "small spin off" either, taking a darker and more experimental approach with "a more psychological horror feel". It was later announced on October 31 that development had resumed.
