The character design of Gust is based on Gust-Chan, the mascot for the Gust Online Store owned by one of the game's publishers Gust Incorporated. Gust-Chan herself is a reference to the Atelier series. In Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2, Gust reveals that her country of origin is named Salburg, and the Gust Online Store's URL shares the name; Salburg is the setting of Atelier Marie: The Alchemist of Salburg.
