In Japanese, Ryunosuke occasionally says "kashira" (~かしら), a feminine ending particle meaning "I wonder" (i.e. thinking to himself). According to series localization director Janet Hsu, he was written to say this to include more period-specific speaking patterns that would be used by any Japanese citizen during the Meiji era, despite the term itself being strongly perceived in the modern day as feminine. Historically, usage of the term and other terms qualifying as "Japanese women's language" were based largely on the "soft-spoken, indirect, and refined" speech styles of women within the middle to elite classes in Tokyo, inferring that those who spoke that way came from a well-to-do upbringing and educational background. In fact, it was so unusual for a man to use it in modern times that one of the Japanese playtesters for The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles flagged it under the belief it was a bug.
