In the late 1990s, Interplay co-founder Brian Fargo began working on a third installment in the Battle Chess series known as "Battle Chess 3", but it was ultimately cancelled. The existence of the game would not be revealed until years later in 2015, when Fargo uploaded a prototypical cutscene for the game.
