On the page for the SquisherZ fanart contest, one of the submissions is a crude drawing of a monster with a detailed face, sparkles, and the Japanese text "ゴゴゴゴ" (a sound effect used to indicate a foreboding atmosphere), referencing the 1987 manga JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. In a Twitter post, Hypnospace Outlaw director Jay Tholen stated that he was actually unaware of JoJo and that the image was sent to him on Discord; he accepted the drawing because of its "charmingly low effort" appearance.
