Go for a Punch! Saki Sanobashi is based on a 2015 urban legend disseminated on the imageboard 4chan recounting a supposedly lost direct-to-video anime film of the same name, in which multiple schoolgirls graphically commit suicide while trapped in a bathroom. The 4chan post sparked an extensive online search attempting to recover the film, eventually fragmenting after a Reddit user claiming to be the original 4chan poster alleged that they had made up the story. This post invigorated some to continue the search, while others became inspired to create fan interpretations of what the film would have been like, resulting in the visual novel.
