Carmageddon was the subject of a major backlash from the British tabloid press for its violent content, with one newspaper running a large headline reading "BAN DEATH GAME NOW: POPE". If one was to read the smaller text below the headline, they would find out that the "Pope" in question was MP Greg Pope, and not Pope John Paul II as the headline would imply.
