In 2013, around the launch of Disney Infinity, Disney merchandise artist Jim Valeri posted a set of images to his portfolio of angular figures, resembling the character models from Disney Infinity, of Muppets Kermit, Gonzo, Miss Piggy, Animal, Beaker, and Fozzie Bear, mentioning that they were made a year ago and he had no clue what they were for or if they would be released. While not explicitly stated, it seems heavily likely from the timing and aesthetic that these were intended as characters for Disney Infinity who never saw the light of day, possibly due to the financial failure of the 2014 film Muppets Most Wanted.

In order for a movie to break even, it needs to make back at least twice its budget so it can recoup the budget and also cover marketing costs and theater/distributor fees. If it can make 2.5 to 3 times its budget, it is a box office success. Muppets Most Wanted had a budget of $50 million and after recouping its budget it was only able to make back $30.4 million in profit. It did not break even and lost the studio money. The Muppets Christmas Carol had a significantly cheaper budget of $12 million, it was able to break even and made an additional $3.2 million. I can't find any consistent sources on a budget for the other movie to compare, but that is usually how it works for big Hollywood studios.

Despite what's been said about Muppets Most Wanted to point of what can be explained, it says here that it's the third highest grossing film of all time with the Muppet Muppets?: https://www.boxofficemojo.com/franchise/fr2420608773/

It even outgrossed The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island, which weren't considered box office failures.
