In order to make it onto The Hall of Fame leaderboard in the original 1975 release of the game, you must collect a relic called the Orb and escape the Whisenwood dungeon with it. The Orb is guarded by a Golden Dragon, and once defeated, the difficulty of the dungeon's enemies increases significantly as you try to escape. Because of its direct ties to the game's story and difficulty, the Golden Dragon is believed to be the earliest example of a boss enemy in a video game. The game's Version 8.0 revision released in 1978 would add two new dungeons, relics, and bosses. The Orb and the Golden Dragon were moved out of Whisenwood and into the new Caverns dungeon, with a cure-all Fountain guarded by a Wizard taking its place. The other new dungeon, the Tomb of Doom, added a Grail guarded by a Vampire, with both the Grail and the Orb now being required for ranking on The Hall of Fame.
