The eponymous old man seen throughout most of the Chessmaster series was played by actor Will Hare. He was perhaps best known for playing 'Old Man Peabody' in the 1985 film Back to the Future. Hare died in 1997 from a heart attack at the age of 81 while on stage during a rehearsal at the Actors Studio in New York City.
