Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
subdirectory_arrow_right Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Game)
1
Both the original GameCube release and the Nintendo Switch remake are rated E by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB), but the GameCube version's rating was simply given the descriptor "Mild Cartoon Violence". The remake’s ESRB rating was updated to replace it with the descriptors "Mild Fantasy Violence" and "Mild Suggestive Themes". These "Mild Suggestive Themes" most likely refer to flirtatious dialogue (i.e. "Aren’t you a fine specimen of a man"; "Perhaps if I…grabbed you and gave you a little sugar") and a character with a large chest/exaggerated proportions, referencing Madame Flurrie.

Attachment In the 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog film, Sonic’s disdain of mushrooms could be a jab at his rivalry with Mario in the 90s. This is reinforced in the Thai dub of the film, where the joke about Tom saying that Sonic won’t be the only “fungi” on the mushroom planet is replaced with “at least you can have a mushroom forever,” to which Sonic replies with “No. I’m not Mario”.

Nintendo possibly “returned the favor” in 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, where the Super Mario Bros. Plumbing advertisement features a map with one of the landmarks listed as “Mushroom Planet”.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

In the level "Paths of the Dead", there is a voice line error after the game transitions from a cutscene into the game. Legolas says "The way is shut. It was made by those who are dead, and the dead keep it." One second later, he repeats the very first line again, but quieter and with less emphasis, "The way is shut." This line appears in the cutscene's subtitles, suggesting that it was not properly edited out because it was mistakenly not recognized as an outtake in the first place.
Chicken Run: Eggstraction
subdirectory_arrow_right Chicken Run (Franchise)
1
The concept of Chicken Run: Eggstraction was concieved during the production of the Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget movie. It is possible that the ending of Dawn of the Nugget, where Spoiler:Ginger leads the flock to become vigilante spies, devoted to rescuing chickens from other coups and factories may have been added to set up the game.
Titenic
1
Titenic was finished an indeterminately long time before its release in 2003 (presumably back when the 1997 film "Titanic" was recent), but was temporarily shelved due to declining interest in the Taiwanese Famicom market. Although not stated by any official sources, it could also be incurred that it may have had difficulty releasing due to the film's target audience being very distant from those that video games were marketed to in the 1990s, as it was released with the more pre-teen-boy-targeting reskin, Harry's Legend in 2001, prior to the release of the original Titenic.

Sunset Overdrive
subdirectory_arrow_right Insomniac Games (Company)
2
In the 2023 Insomniac Games ransomware data leak, a leaked financial document revealed the development costs, sales, and shares for every game Insomniac has worked on for years. Sunset Overdrive, a 2014 Xbox and PC exclusive game co-developed by Insomniac, sold 1,898,433 units for a total of $49,737,133, but only netted the company $567 in profit after costs had been divided. This is a testament to the fact that a modern game has to sell exorbitant amounts for the development studio to make back what it often invests in creating it, possibly being an indicator of why Insomniac pivoted to making games based on financially lucrative Marvel Comics properties.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations
2
During the game's first case "Turnabout Memories", defense attorney Marvin Grossberg makes several references to his hemorrhoids acting up, with one being that they are "doing the Harlem Shake". While the English localization of the game wrote in several pop culture references and memes that were popular at the time of its release in 2007, this reference to the Harlem Shake was not a reference to the 2013 viral dance since it did not exist yet, but was actually a reference to the pre-existing Harlem Shake dance that first originated in New York City in 1981. However, according to the official Ace Attorney series timeline, Trials and Tribulations takes place in 2019, and in the events of that game, the Turnabout Memories case takes place five years beforehand in 2014, which is coincidentally one year after the Harlem Shake meme went viral. This makes it plausible for unaware players to assume that Grossberg is referencing the viral dance in the time when it was relevant, unintentionally predicting the meme's popularity and ostensibly inflating the number of meme references in the English script.

Alternatively, the German translation of the game instead has Grossberg say his hemorrhoids are doing "den Ententanz", also known as the Chicken Dance, another fad dance originating from Switzerland in the 1950's.

Fate/Grand Order
1
The Chinese Version of Fate/Grand Order, published by video sharing website bilibili, features several changes and censored elements compared to the original Japanese release. These were all likely done as to comply with Chinese law. Some examples of changes are as follows:

• Boudica: Attire altered to reduce cleavage and panties were changed into shorts. She and Mata Hari also temporarily had their portrait artwork removed before being put back in place
• Shuten-Doji: Ascensions were altered to reduce visible skin throughout.
• Mata Hari: Bikini top was made larger to reduce cleavage. She and Boudica also temporarily had their portrait artwork removed before being put back in place
• Cú Chulainn: Second Ascension was altered to cover his chest.
• Minamoto-no-Raikou: The cloth covering her breasts in her first ascension is retained in her second and third.
• Hassan of the Cursed Arm: Second Ascension adds a cloth obscuring his face and chest.
• Yu-Mei-Ren (Assassin): Name was temporarily changed to Assassin 230, then later 雏罂. Reduced the size of her cleavage window and added fabric to hide skin showing in her second and third ascensions. Her bust size is also notably smaller in the Chinese version.
• Yu-Mei-Ren (Lancer): Swimsuit was adjusted to be less revealing.
• Gorgon: Attire adjusted to cover chest more.
• Wu Zetian (Assassin): Name was temporarily changed to Assassin 170, then later 周照. All appearances of the character were scrubbed, as well as any mentions of her by name, replacing her with the default Assassin Card. Spoiler:This affects the story of Agartha as she is the true identity of Assassin of the Nightless City, one of the story's antagonist. Was later given fabric covering her stomach on her second, third, and final ascensions.
• Xuanzang Sanzang: Cleavage is covered. Artwork was temporarily disabled until adjusted artwork was provided. Was renamed "Pilgrim To The West" (西行者) to comply with Chinese depiction laws.
• Yang Guifei: Second ascension adds frills to her attire's lower body, while her third and final cover up her chest. She also had some of her ascensions disabled until new artwork was added.
• Orion (Artemis): Removed cleavage from first ascension artwork and icon.
• Carmilla (Assassin): Added clothing to areas otherwise not covered in the original version.
• Ushiwakamaru: Was given skintight clothing covering her torso. Coincidentally, this resembles her design in Melty Blood: Type Lumina, which was also censored in a similar fashion.
• Tamamo Cat: Reduced cleavage and bust size.
• Fergus Mac Róich: Added bandages covering his chest.
• Phantom of the Opera: Blood was removed from his second ascension's knives.
• Giles De Rais (Saber): Blood stain removed from his second ascension.
• Scáthach (Lancer): Skin Tight suit made less see through.
• Darius III: Body paint was removed and his expression was changed to be less angry.

In addtion, several other Chinese-originating Servants had their names changed to their Class, followed by their Servant ID. Other Servants also had their names changed. Jack The Ripper, for example, was changed to "Abandoned Son of the Mist." Similar changes were also made to various Craft Essences, similarly removing revealing clothing and references to blood.

Poptropica
3
In December 2023, a Discord user posing as a representative of the developers of Poptropica stated on the server for the fan website Poptropica Help Blog that the game would be shutting down after December 29th. The account first appeared on the server in 2022, and while the blog did not do a complete screening to ensure the account was officially associated with the developers, it was eventually given the role of "Poptropica Creator" after they determined it was official based on its posting history. Many players initially believed the announcement was legitimate after Poptropica suddenly closed membership registrations earlier in the month. Shortly after the shut down announcement, the official Poptropica Twitter and Instagram accounts decried the Discord account as being unofficial, and assured players that the game would still be playable after December 29th, with all memberships up to the end of the year being available for free. The blog posted an apology for perpetuating the rumors the following day, but within the next year, the validity of the rumors being false would come into question.

On January 18, 2024, possibly in response to the rumors the prior month, Coolmath Games revealed that they had been in talks with the team behind Poptropica to host the game on their site exclusively, with the game remaining playable on Steam and mobile devices. This would later be confirmed by Poptropica themselves through a pop-up message on their website shortly afterwards. Notably, in a blog post expanding upon the news, Coolmath Games revealed that "the original Poptropica decided to wind down", something that had never been officially stated by Poptropica themselves. This would suggest that there was some degree of truth to the initial hoax as well as various rumors.

Super Mario Bros. 3
subdirectory_arrow_right Super Mario Maker 2 (Game)

Attachment Many international Mario fans were confused by the design of the Angry Sun in the New Super Mario Bros. U style of Super Mario Maker 2, noticing how it appeared more stern than angry. This is due to the fact that "angry" is not part of the enemy's name in Japan, just being called "sun", meaning that anger is not an inherent part of the character and giving it a different expression would make more sense without knowledge of its localized name.

The new design of the "Angry" Sun seems to be based on pre-colonial mythology based on the sun, most particularly the Inca sun god Inti, a design inspiration that seems to exist in anthropomoprhic suns from multiple other Nintendo games such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Mole Mania, and Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters

Attachment In a 2023 leak of unreleased content from different iOS games, an app titled Angry Birds Island - or alternatively Angry Birds Hatchery - was discovered. The prototype was simply a version of the original Angry Birds with two major differences
•A mode called "Hatchery", which shows an overworld map of an island with a row at the bottom of toys and furniture
•The first two worlds of the original game, but with an option to select from a set of birds, all of which appear to be hybrids of the regular birds
This seemingly implies some kind of pet simulator mode with an egg breeding mechanic, not unlike the Chao Gardens from the Sonic Adventure series. It is unknown if this was planned as an update for Angry Birds or a new spin-off.
Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams
1
Attachment Maria has an unused punk counterpart texture left in Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams game's files. It is a recolor of Punk Giana, having red eyes, blue and green hair, a green sweater and a blue skirt. Its purpose remains unknown, though it possibly could have been meant for a co-op multiplayer mode or a scrapped cutscene.

The PaRappa the Rapper anime had a highly troubled production. The series was aimed at a younger audience than the games' developers wanted due to teenagers not buying toys and the characters were aged down as a result, series character designer Rodney Greenblatt was given very little input on the series' stories or art, despite having to make new character designs every week (noting that characters often appeared off-model), and the series failed to garner an audience due to being aired at an awkward time slot where it would often be delayed for baseball games. Greenblatt speculated that the drama over the anime's production led to the PaRappa franchise being put on its currently-ongoing hiatus.

Added on November 1st, 2023, The "BABY-LON'S GALAXY" event pits players against a slew of new boss songs utilizing the "FLARE" gauge. This meter starts at max, doesn't recover upon successful timing, and decreases from any judgement below Perfect. This replicates how Extra Stages functioned between DDRMax Dance Dance Revolution 6thMix and Dance Dance Revolution Supernova 2, which required players to beat difficult songs while grades below perfect depleted the player's Life Gauge.

In each Dive to the Heart segment in almost every game in the series, there is a disembodied voice that can only speak through text that guides the characters (and thus the player as well) through the tutorial of each game. The identity of these voices has been unidentified in every game but Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (where it is obviously child Sora) and the first Kingdom Hearts. For the latter, in the Kingdom Hearts Ultimania, Nomura was asked who the voice is for the opening of the first game and he finally gave it's identity as being none other than King Mickey. However, this interview was done in the early 2000's before most of the sequels were produced, so it's unknown if this explanation was retconned or not.
Kurohyou 2: Ryuu ga Gotoku Ashura-hen
1
Kurohyou 2 features a song which Ukyo can sing in the karaoke mini-game titled "Majima no MajiROCK", which features the voice of Goro Majima and his character profile on the song cover. Goro Majima is a character from the first Yakuza game who has appeared in every single mainline title since, but never made an appearance in either of the Kurohyou spin-offs besides this cameo, implying that he had to have recorded this song himself at some point.

Leftover files for Yoshitaka Mine, the antagonist of Yakuza 3, can be found in the files for Yakuza Kiwami, suggesting that he may have been planned to appear in a substory in a similar way to how Yakuza 2's main antagonist, Ryuji Goda, was a substory character in Yakuza 0.

It has been claimed in interviews that the name "PaRappa" is a pun on "parappa", a supposed Japanese word meaning "flat" or "paper-thin", and the English word "rapper". This appears to be a slight mistranslation, as the word "parappa" does not exist within Japanese, but the word "パラパラ" (para para) seems to be a more likely origin, a Japanese term for flipping through a book, which would have flat pages. The term is also used for a Japanese form of disco dancing, which could also be seen as part of a pun, given that the series takes influence from a lot of different genres as opposed to just rap, with PaRappa the Rapper 2 having a noticeable disco influence.

Attachment A TV adaptation of the de Blob franchise was in production around 2010 to be aired on the SyFy TV channel on a new children's block, which would've used Blob in its branding. This deal got so far that SyFy Kids' logo was included on trailers and promotional items for de Blob 2. Due to the sequel's underperformance, the cartoon would be cancelled, and given Blob's prevalence in preliminary branding and the lack of knowledge on what other series were being planned if any, the cartoon's cancellation likely also led to the SyFy Kids block being cancelled too. SyFy Kids would later be revived in 2013, but airing on the Asian and South African versions of KidsCo with a lineup almost entirely comprised of reruns and syndicated programming.
