Attachment The trophy representing Meowth in Super Smash Bros. Melee is a reference to his appearance in a tech demo shown off at Spaceworld 2000 called "Meowth's Party", which itself was based on a recurring ending musical number from the Pokémon anime. In his trophy he is holding the same red guitar that he performs with in the tech demo. The flavor text for his trophy even directly mentions this tech demo:

"This...is Meowth's dream. Meowth strides all over the globe, scattering invitations to other Pokémon, insisting they come to "Meowth's Party." At this wonderful party, guests are packed in like sardines as Meowth climbs up the stage with its faithful guitar. It strikes a chord, pauses, and then rocks their world!"

A version of Meowth's Party eventually made its way into the GameCube release of Pokémon Channel.

Sea of Stars

Originally, YouTuber Jirard Khalil (most famous for his webseries "The Completionist") made a cameo in Sea of Stars as an NPC named "Jirard the Constructionist", who you could donate building plans to to help construct new buildings in the town of Mirth as part of the "Home Neat Home" achievement. This cameo came after Khalil had previously featured unique builds of Sea of Stars, including one featuring Jirard the Constructionist, during his annual indie game spotlight charity event "IndieLand", which was run by his official charity organization, the Open Hand Foundation. In November 2023, a few months after the game's release, Khalil was accused of committing charity fraud through the organization, spawning a controversy that prompted the game's developers to release a patch for the game that removed his cameo, and replacing him with a generic NPC named Bob. Considering Bob is a builder, this new character may be a reference to the children's animated series "Bob the Builder".

Star Fox: Assault

Attachment Star Fox: Assault is notable for including three unlockable Famicom/NES games originally created by Namco:

• Xevious
• Battle City
• Star Luster

As explained by the development team in an issue of Nintendo Dream, this was done to highlight Star Fox: Assault being a collaboration between Nintendo and Namco, with the latter being its primary developer. With the Star Fox franchise being a sci-fi shooter series, Tsuyoshi Kobayashi and Takaya Imamura had carefully decided on which classic Namco games would fit the best with that vibe. There were considerations to also include Nintendo created Famicom/NES games (one person, for example, had suggested including Balloon Fight), but ultimately Imamura and Kobayashi couldn't come up with any games that would have fit the Star Fox world and atmosphere.

Unfortunately, as the Famicom versions of Battle City and Star Luster had never been released in Western territories, they in turn were excluded from all Western versions of Star Fox: Assault, leaving Xevious as the only unlockable Namco game outside of Japan.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Three of the character origin tips for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate ignore lesser known Nintendo-branded games released by third parties in the 1990s. Two of these tips outright lie - one related to Mario's first utterance of the phrase "Mamma Mia!" (which it falsely attributes to Super Mario 64 and not Mario's Game Gallery) and another claiming that there are only 5 Zelda series games with Link's name in the title (ignoring Link: The Faces of Evil). The third one on the other hand is worded in an awkward manner - a tip relating to Luigi's first starring role referring to Luigi's Mansion as "Luigi's first big break as a main protagonist" - as to ignore the true holder of the title, Mario is Missing! without technically lying.

It's not known if those first two instances were an honest error, or an intentional attempt to hide the games given that they are generally seen as low quality and are considered to have negatively affected Nintendo's reputation at their time of release.
Bayonetta
3
Attachment During any cutscene where Bayonetta has a lollipop, if you hold down a specific button before the candy head of the lollipop first appears, you will gain the effect of a specific lollipop item available in the game's stores, and this is reflected in the cutscene by changing which lollipop flavor is shown:

• A for Green Herb lollipop (recover health)
• B for Bloody Rose lollipop (temporary damage boost)
• X for Purple Butterfly lollipop (recover magic)
• Y for Yellow Moon lollipop (gain armor)

It is pertinent that you press and hold the desired button before the candy part of the lollipop is actually seen in the cutscene to ensure the trick works. For example, in Chapter IV: The Cardinal Virtue of Fortitude, when Bayonetta walks into the colosseum, you can see that she is holding a lollipop, but you can only see the stick at first, meaning there's still time to perform the trick. If performed correctly, the lollipop head will be revealed as the one you have chosen. You can also skip the cutscene while still holding the button in order to keep the effect. Unlike normally using a lollipop item, performing this trick does not remove points from your score in a chapter.

Going off of the colors of each lollipop that are used for each face button, they match up with the Xbox 360 controller's color scheme, possibly being a remnant of Platinum Games primarily developing Bayonetta for the Xbox 360. This feature would not be carried over into subsequent Bayonetta games.

Cuphead

Attachment After the release of The Delicious Last Course DLC, an Easter egg was added where after spinning in place three times, Djimmi the Great will appear and say "You've freed Game Djimmi! I grant thee infinite wishes on Simple and Regular Modes!" This quote references the Game Genie peripheral, and his wishes grant the player double the HP for the next boss fight.

Attachment In American Dad vs. Family Guy: Kung-Fu II Turbo! Hyper-Mega Edition, Ryu from the Street Fighter series appears as a playable character, using sprites from Street Fighter II instead of being redrawn into the Seth MacFarlane artstyle. Unusually, his stage is Sagat's instead of his own.

Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery
3
According to Kane Carter, characters from titles released as part of The Fazbear Fanverse Initiative (such as Candy the Cat from Five Nights at Candy's and Popgoes the Weasel from POPGOES Evergreen) were eligible for inclusion in the game, as a manager from Illumix mentioned in a livestream that they were considered part of Scott Cawthon's official roster. However, this never happened as the game was shut down in March 2024 without any characters from these projects being added.
One Piece: World Seeker
3
Attachment In the Japanese and European versions of the game, a DLC quest was released called, "The Phantom Remedy" which had Luffy visit a nearby island with a hot spring. The quest would task Luffy with collecting bottles to gather water from the hot spring, as it's rumored to grant eternal youth. Each time Luffy would visit the hot spring, he would come across Nami, Nico Robin, and Tashigi bathing in the springs.

This DLC was not made available in the North American release, though the island would later be patched in without the quest.
Cool Spot
subdirectory_arrow_right 7 Up (Franchise)
3
Attachment In Cool Spot's manual, a promotional campaign was advertised where players could win a "Cool Prize" if they beat the game under certain circumstances. If you beat the game on any difficulty under Hard, use any of the six "UNCOLA" letters as a free continue, or fail to collect any of the letters at all, you will be greeted with a screen featuring a pair of Spots crying because you did not meet the requirements to win the contest. However, if you beat the game on Hard and have all six "UNCOLA" letters, then you will instead be greeted with a screen of a Spot holding a camera instructing the player to take a picture of the screen and mail it to the address in the game's manual, the headquarters of Virgin Games. This contest ended on December 31, 1993, roughly 8 months after the original Genesis version was released, and not even 4 months after the SNES version was released. According to a TV Tropes entry, the prize was allegedly a cheap plastic Spot toy, although there has been no official confirmation on what prizes were awarded to winners, if any.

One known "winner" of the contest years after the fact was YouTuber Jirard Khalil "The Completionist", who reviewed the game and instead of sending his screen to the now-defunct Virgin Games, he decided to tweet it out to 7 Up's official Twitter account in 2014. This caught their attention for being "crazy, old school and incredible", resulting in them direct-messaging him and asking for his address to send him a prize. The following week, a bizarre PR stunt took place where two "7 Up Women" arrived at The Completionist's offices, bringing with them a pallet of assorted 7 Up, Diet 7 Up, Cherry 7 Up, Sunkist and Snapple drinks, as well as free sunglasses and loudspeakers. Khalil described the event: "They had no idea why they were there, I didn't know why they were there, it was an overall weird experience to say the least."

Persona 3 Reload
2
According to producer Kazuhisa Wada, the addition of the female protagonist from Persona 3 Portable was considered during development of Persona 3 Reload, but was ultimately deemed "too time-consuming and expensive" compared to remaking "The Answer", the epilogue chapter from Persona 3 FES.
Hi-Fi Rush
2
Attachment The January 2024 update celebrating Hi-Fi Rush's one year anniversary includes new t-shirts that players can wear in-game. Some of these t-shirts are exclusive to their own platform (Xbox, Steam, and Epic Game Store):

• Xbox owners get a green shirt saying “shadow dropped”, a reference to the game’s surprise release.
• Epic Games Store owners get a shirt saying “this is simply unreal epic”, obviously a reference to Epic Games and the Unreal engine and series.
• Steam owners get a shirt saying “Be Positive (Overwhelmingly)”, an obvious reference to Steam’s user review system.

However, two more additional exclusive shirts have recently been discovered through datamining that seem to curiously pertain to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5, two competitor platforms to Xbox.

• The red shirt seemingly for Switch says "rock out anywhere", obviously referencing the Switch's portable nature.
• The blue shirt seemingly for PS5 says "I'm here baby", possibly a reference to the game finally arriving on PS5 after a year of being exclusive to Xbox platforms.

In early 2024, Hi-Fi Rush was the subject of various rumors claiming that Microsoft planned on porting it and possibly other first party Xbox titles to its competitor platforms, those specifically being PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. In response to these rumors, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer announced in an Xbox Business Update on February 16, 2024 that four of their previously Xbox exclusive titles were being brought over to rival platforms. On February 21, 2024, it was announced that Hi-Fi Rush, along with Rare's Sea of Thieves and Obsidian's Grounded and Pentiment, were all being released on PlayStation 5 (and Nintendo Switch as well as PlayStation 4 for the latter two games), fully confirming the rumors.

Donkey Konga 2
subdirectory_arrow_right Donkey Konga 2 (Game)
2
Attachment Donkey Konga 2 features a set of unlockable badges based on not only Donkey Kong Country characters (specifically DK, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, and Cranky Kong), but also other Nintendo IPs such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda and Pikmin. The Japanese version of the game also features badges of generic humans.

The international release of Donkey Konga 2 would remove the aforementioned human badges (as well as the Boo badge) and replace them with six extra Donkey Kong Country badges (Funky Kong, Kiddy Kong, Swanky Kong, Wrinkly Kong, Banana Bird, and King K. Rool). Five badges from Star Fox: Assault, another Namco developed game, were also included, featuring the Star Fox team as depicted in that game (Fox, Falco, Krystal, and Slippy) and also strangely enough, Andrew Oikonny; it's possible that this is meant to be a reference to both the Donkey Kong and Star Fox series heavily featuring ape/monkey characters.
Super Smash Bros. Melee
2
Attachment In a March 2002 Nintendo Dream questionnaire with Mitsuaki Hagishima (the general manager of Nintendo's Planning Department), it was revealed that Banjo & Kazooie were planned to be included in Super Smash Bros. Melee as trophies. However, time constraints and the complexity of the approval process (as Rare, the developers of the Banjo-Kazooie IP, were situated in the UK) lead to this being dropped, as well as other Rare associated characters (such as Joanna Dark from Perfect Dark) not appearing in the final game. This was brought up again in a September 2009 issue of Rare's Scribes, where it was mentioned that a lot of Rare character trophies were planned to be included in Melee, but it never happened.

Ninja Gaiden
2
In the first level of Ninja Gaiden Black, if the player dies 3 times, the game will ask if they wish to "abandon the way of the Ninja?" After double verifying "Yes", a scene of Ayane coming to Ryu's collapsed body will play, unlocking Ninja Dog Mode, an easier difficulty setting. From then on she will provide additional messages throughout the game that won't be seen in a regular playthrough, with healing items and artifacts that make the game easier. Once per chapter, if the player (or an allied NPC) dies in this mode, the game will provide additional healing items. In addition, all Results scores will say "Ninja Dog", and the title screen will feature an image of Ayane instead of Ryu.

Attachment Completing the "Paradise Island" scenario will reward the player with the mythical Unicorn as an adoptable animal. However, it can be unlocked earlier by renaming an exhibit to "Xanadu".

The name "Xanadu" seems to be a reference to at least one of the following:

•The former capital of Shangdu, which featured unicorns on its currency during the Yuan dynasty.
•The 1980 film Xanadu, a musical fantasy.
•The 1988 comic book series also called Xanadu, which featured unicorn characters.
