Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
subdirectory_arrow_right Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (Game), Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Game)

Attachment One of the few tracks included from Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze within the soundtrack for both Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is "Swinger Flinger". However, actually listening to the track reveals it to instead be the theme for the Bopopolis stage.

This error is not presented in the Japanese versions of these games, where the "Swinger Flinger" track is properly referred to by its Japanese name equivalent to Bopopolis, ふみふみラビリンス (Fumifumi Rabirinsu), or Stomping Labyrinth. In comparison, the actual Swinger Flinger track and stage in the Japanese version of Tropical Freeze is called バインラビリンス (Bain Rabirinsu), or Vine Labyrinth.

Zoo Tycoon

Attachment One of the "Ice Age" (aka Pleistocene) era prehistoric creatures introduced in Zoo Tycoon: Dinosaur Digs is the "Giant Tortoise". In real life, as mentioned in its in-game description, its name is Meiolania.

Strangely enough, Dinosaur Digs depicts the Giant Tortoise as a tundra-dwelling reptile, perhaps to give it parity with its fellow Pleistocene/"Ice Age" animals such as the Woolly Mammoth, Sabre-Tooth Tiger (aka Smilodon) and Woolly Rhino, that all share the Tundra biome. In real life, the Meiolania actually lived in warmer, sub-tropical habitats such as prehistoric Australia.

Attachment One of the dinosaurs introduced in Zoo Tycoon's first expansion pack, Dinosaur Digs, is the Caudipteryx, a small bird-like dinosaur from Asia. In-game, it is listed as hailing from the Jurassic era, and it's even one of the dinosaurs the player is required to adopt in the "Jurassic Zoo" scenario, which hence its title, requires utilizing all of the game's Jurassic era dinosaurs to win. This is an error on Blue Fang's part, as the Caudipteryx actually hailed from the early Cretaceous period.

Attachment There is a cactus prop at Universal Studios' Super Nintendo World that does not originate from an official Mario game, but rather the fanmade mod Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii. At the time of the park's opening, a Google search for "new super mario bros wii cactus" would show images of Newer's desert levels alongside New Super Mario Bros. Wii, meaning that the cacti was likely added by accident, being mistaken for official Nintendo material.
Mother 3
2
Attachment On February 9, 2007, nearly a year after the game's release, director and series creator Shigesato Itoi set up an online quiz for fans who had completed the game, testing their knowledge about it. One question asks which Thief Jujitsu technique Wess uses, with the options being:

• "Super Sunset Miracle Chop Again"
• "Super Chop Miracle Sunset Again"
• "Super Miracle Sunset Chop Again"
• "Miracle Chop Super Sunset Again"
• "Miracle Chop Super Sunrise Again"
• "Miracle Sunset Super Chop Again"

None of this corresponds with anything seen in the final game, and a note attached to the question clarifies that it was based on something that was removed during development, telling fans to ignore it. Because the intended answer was never confirmed by anyone on the Mother 3 development team, it is unknown what the true name of the technique was. Similarly, the question doesn't clarify what the technique would've been used for, though the phrase "Thief Jujitsu" is most similar to the Secret Thief Arts Technique that Wess occasionally uses in battle.
Final Fantasy VI
3
The character Ultros from Final Fantasy VI’s Japanese name is pronounced as “ortorosu” and was intended to be a reference to Orthos from Greek mythology. When the game was localized, the translator was presumably unaware of this reference and transliterated it as Ultros. Later entries in the series would alternate between calling the character Ultros and Orthos.

Sonic Underground
3
The story section of Sonic Underground's manual has numerous inconsistencies with the plot of the show it's based on, though are still featured in early production documents. These include:

• Robotnik at one point being referred to as "Sheriff Robotnik", likely a reference to the Sheriff of Nottingham from the legend of Robin Hood. He does not bare this title in the show itself; early leaks to the show's plot prior to release also reference his role as a sheriff, suggesting it was a scrapped concept from early on in development.
• The Oracle of Delphius being banished to the Frozen Wastes by Robotnik and passing away from unknown causes sometime after, telling Sonic how to reunite with his siblings in his dying breath. While the Oracle does take up residence in Ice Cap in the final show, he was not banished there, nor does he ever die.
• The Medallions being stated to be golden, but in the final show they bare a more silver coloration. Another detail stated in the manual but not in the final show is that they each possess three notes engraved into them.
• Robotnik's given motive for finding Queen Aleena is so that he can marry her and make her his consort, as he believes that by doing so he can become the rightful ruler of Mobius. While not his overall motive in the final show, the episode "Wedding Bell Blues" did use a similar premise for its plot.
• While not in early production documents, the game's manual states that it ends with Sonic, Manic and Sonia reuniting with their mother, which never actually happened in the original show, making it the only piece of Sonic Underground-related media where this goal is actually accomplished.

The following year, in a separate tweet by NecromancerTwink, the co-creator of Bauhaus the Bat, he decided to also make this character transgender after discovering a possible error in the character's article on the game's Fandom wiki.

Attachment In Mario Kart 64's Bowser's Castle, one can see what appears to be a green Thwomp locked up in a jail cell - this Thwomp is not actually green, but simply lit in a way that makes him appear as such.

This Thwomp would inspire urban legends claiming that players could bail him out through varying elaborate tricks, after which he would be playable under the name "Marty" (likely chosen for the ease of editing hoaxed images with the names Mario, Toad, and Yoshi)

When N64 Bowser's Castle returned in Mario Kart Wii, "Marty" would be made the color of the rest of the Thwomps, suggesting that his green complexion was simply an error and not an intentional design choice.

Star Fox Adventures
1
Attachment The WarpStone, despite living on a planet filled with dinosaurs, is infamously somehow incapable of warping them, hence why Tricky can't accompany Fox to Krazoa Palace.

In the Japanese version of Star Fox Adventures, the WarpStone, whose Japanese name is ワープ魔人 (Wāpu majin) or Warp Demon, offers a different explanation of why he can't warp Tricky through Japanese subtitles:

すまない 、1つ言い忘れたことがある。恐竜たちはワープをこわがるんだ! (Sorry, I forgot to mention one thing. Dinosaurs are afraid of teleporting!)

Essentially, it's not that the WarpStone can't teleport dinosaurs like Tricky, it's just that they're merely afraid of being warped.

Star Fox Adventures
subdirectory_arrow_right Dinosaur Planet (Game)

Attachment There's a somewhat notable plot hole in Star Fox Adventures when Fox meets up with Tricky for the first time: the former tells him that his father, the King EarthWalker, has been captured by the SharpClaw and that it was the Queen EarthWalker that sent him to rescue Tricky.

The issue is that Fox shouldn't actually know anything about the King EarthWalker's predicament because all he was told by the Queen EarthWalker (translated by Slippy Toad) was to go to Ice Mountain and save Tricky. It's obvious that this plothole is merely a remnant of the original Dinosaur Planet storyline, where Sabre was already informed by his father, Randorn, about the King EarthWalker and Tricky, and was instructed to rescue the latter at Ice Mountain.

The Japanese version of Star Fox Adventures would actually attempt to rectify this plothole by altering the dialogue between Fox and Tricky through the Japanese subtitles.

Tricky: ・・・ヘタな着地だったよな〜。パンツが破れたんじゃないの、キャッハッハー! (...that was a bad landing! I think you ripped your pants, hahaha!)
Fox: このガキ...(You little...)
Tricky: ・・・そういう態度はどうかなー。パパはアソーカ王なんだぞ! (...I don't know about that attitude. My dad is the King of Ahsoka!)
Fox: それよりどこか具合が悪いんじゃないか? お前のママ... (Isn't there something worse than that? Your mom...)
Tricky: え! ママが? (What? My mom?)
Fox: そんな風に見えたけど...(She looked like she was...)
Tricky: ママは... 大丈夫? (Is she... is she okay?)
Fox: ...大丈夫さ、 一緒に帰ろう。 (...She's fine. Let's go home together.)

As one can see from above, Fox's dialogue was reworked to remove all mention of the King EarthWalker being captured, instead worrying about the health of the Queen EarthWalker.

Star Fox Command
1
Attachment The character of Octoman is portrayed as much more angry and agressive in the English localization of Star Fox Command than he is in the original Japanese script. Take for example, this bit from the Slippy's Resolve story route:

OCTOMAN: GRRAAAGGHH! YOU IDIOTS! DON'T LET THE ENEMY APPROACH TITANIA! I repeat... DO NOT LET THE ENEMY APPROACH TITANIA!
SLIPPY: Wow, this guy is really angry...
OCTOMAN: Andross's secret facility MUST NOT FALL into enemy hands! If it does, we're all GONNA BE CALAMARI! GOT IT?! GGYYAAARRGGGHHHH!! AAAAAND...it appears that Aquas has ALSO BEEN INFILTRATED! Find these scum and wipe them out NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW! ...Er, over.

Re-translating the Japanese text, however, reveals:

OCTOMAN: 惑星タイタニアに敵を近づけてはならない…繰り返す タイタニアに敵を近づけるな… (Do not let the enemy near the planet Titania... repeat: Do not let the enemy near Titania...)
SLIPPY: タイタニア? (Titania?)
OCTOMAN: アンドルフの隠した装置が敵の手に渡ったら大変なことになる アクアスにもじゃま者が侵入した模様 見つけて撃破する …以上 (If Andorf's hidden device gets into enemy hands, we're in big trouble... Aquas has been infiltrated by trespassers...find and destroy them... Over.)

Also in the English version of this game, Octoman has a rather baffling line later on in this same story route, where, when facing against Slippy and his fiance Amanda, he tells his subordinate Zako (Sharman in the Japanese version) this:

OCTOMAN: Mighty Zako! Destroy the puny humans!

It goes without saying that this does not appear to make any sense because Slippy and Amanda are frogs, not humans.

However, re-translating the Japanese text reveals:

OCTOMAN: 目障りだ! シャーマンよ! 噛み砕いてやれ (An eyesore! Sharman! Chew them up!)

Attachment In 2019, UK bargain store Aldi attempted a publicity stunt known as the "Teatime Takedown", where parents would send Aldi their childrens' usernames on gaming platforms (with the service being provided for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles, and unusually the streaming platform Twitch) and the supermarket would send professional gamers to defeat the child in-game so they would eat their food, though Aldi claimed that the effectiveness of the program may vary. Despite a released commercial for the campaign showing children "rage quitting" FPS games, the hired eSports teams, originating from Veloce, specialized in racing games. This sparked massive backlash within the UK eSports community, to the point where Resolve eSports offered to send its players to help kids fight back against the bullies. Aldi would eventually cancel the campaign and send coupons to those who complained as a form of apology. Print adverts were made, but are not known to have been printed in any magazines or catalogues, and radio and till reciept ads were planned.
