The default emote "Dance Moves" is a reference to a scene from the episode "My Half-Acre" of the TV series "Scrubs" from 2006, where Turk auditions for the hospital air-band by dancing to the song "Poison" by Bell Biv Devoe, during which he does the dance featured in the game. Following the default dance's popularization as a meme, it would be discovered that the dance had also been referenced in the episode "Darby the Plant Sitter" of the animated series "My Friends Tigger & Pooh" from 2009, in which Tigger does the same dance as a "grow dance" to try and make crops grow. This discovery briefly caused some confusion from unaware players as to where the dance originated from.

Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures
3
Attachment The print advertisement for Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures features the typical 90s commercial trash-talking against other popular video game characters of the time, claiming that they are unable to do things that Pac-Man can do in the game, such as "Dirty worms can't whistle", referring to Earthworm Jim, or "Big hairy apes can't think for themselves", referring to Donkey Kong. However, one of these allegations is the claim that "Overgrown housecats can't hang glide", seemingly referring to Bubsy the Bobcat, whose signature power is the ability to glide, and therefore would not need a hang glider.

Attachment The appearance of Longclaw in Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog films is reminiscent of the tiles that resemble an owl's head in the Labyrinth Zone from the original Sonic the Hedgehog. In fact, the first film's opening scene features the tile design engraved on a rock as an Easter egg, further hinting at the connection.

This is a reference to the Earthworm Jim franchise, which previously took a jab at Donkey Kong Country in its Sega CD port of the game.
Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku II
3
Attachment An NPC appearing in Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku II is potentially a reference to American domestic terrorist Ted Kaczynski, the Unabomber. It should be noted that while his character portrait and overworld sprite look similar to Kaczynski, it is used for several different NPC characters in the game, so it's unknown if he was originally intended to physically resemble the real-life Unabomber. However, like the Unabomber this character is also named Ted, he moved to a cabin in the woods, and believes society is too reliant on industrial technology, even complimenting Vegeta on "blowing up" a neighbor's generator after he failed to destroy it himself. His dialogue is the following:

Ted: "I moved out here because society is too reliant on Capsule technology. Civilization is falling apart, and we've all filled our pockets with capsules, SUV's and capsule cappuccino machines. It is unnatural. It was very peaceful here - until that Vinnie guy moved in. He makes me sick! Listen to that music he is always playing:

"Feel the danger around you!
The black darkness surrounds you!"
"What are you going to do?
The eyes of the lion!"

I can't stand that corporate pop music Vinnie is always playing: [same lyrics as above]

[After destroying Vinnie's generator]: You blew up his generator? I like your style! I would have done it myself, but I couldn't figure out his security code."

Attachment The title card for the "Gnome Forest" level became the subject of the "Lario" meme, which features an edited version of the card with the word "Lario" above the characters' heads as a mash-up of "Sneaky Snitch" by Kevin MacLeod and "Superstar" by Young Thug. This meme would go on to be referenced within Pizza Tower itself, with Gnome Forest's secret music being renamed "Everybody Wants To Be A Secret" after the meme became popular.

Meme Run
subdirectory_arrow_right Bigley's Revenge (Game)
3
Attachment While most of the memes featured in Meme Run are well-known mainstream memes that were already quite storied by the time of the game's release, one meme included in the game is much more obscure. "Bigley" is a mosquito-like parody of Ridley from the Metroid series meant to mock fierce fandom debates over whether the latter character was "too big" to feasibly include in the Super Smash Bros. franchise. This character was hugely popular within the Miiverse community, and was often considered a mascot for the community during its heyday. However, Meme Run and its sequel Bigley's Revenge were the only footprint Bigley managed to impart outside of the Miiverse community, with the meme being so obscure that its article was rejected from Know Your Meme.
Franchise: Samurai Shodown
3
The "Shodown" in the series Western title is a combination of the word "Showdown" and "Shogun." The latter being a reference to the 1980 TV mini-series, Shogun.

Attachment The word "RED RUM" can be found written in blood on a garage door on Bloch St. This is a reference to the Steven King novel The Shining.

According to the Archie comics, Sonic the Hedgehog's real name was originally "Olgilvie Maurice Hedgehog", and was meant to act as a part of a never-used plot. However, due to one of the comic writers leaving the staff, this concept was never touched upon, and was eventually retconned as Sonic legally changing his name at an early age, leaving his actual first name a mystery.

This would later be referenced years later, where the Netflix description for the animated series "Sonic Prime" claimed that Sonic's middle name was Maurice.

Attachment In the Ghost Square section of the Gold Saucer there is a pumpkin with green eyes in the corner of the room to the left of reception at the inn. Interacting with this pumpkin will cause it to laugh. This laugh is in fact a slightly slower version of the iconic laugh of Kefka Palazzo, the villain from Final Fantasy VI.
SimCity
2
Attachment In the original release of the game, the monster that the player could summon to attack the city was a thinly veiled parody of Godzilla, right down to using the character's iconic roar from the film series; the sound effect is even named "God" in the game's files, furthering the reference. The Godzilla parody is also depicted on the game's box art, gleefully waving at the viewer.

According to programmer Don Hopkins, who notably ported SimCity to numerous versions of Unix, Maxis ended up getting sued by Toho, the owners of the Godzilla franchise; additional details were recounted to him by Maxis CEO Jeff Braun:

"We never referred to the name Godzilla, our monster on the box cover was a T-Rex looking character, but... a few magazine reviews called the monster, Godzilla. That was all it took. Toho called it "confusion in the marketplace". We paid $50k for Godzilla to go away. In all honesty, Toho liked Maxis, they said $50k was the minimum they take for Godzilla infringement."

As a result of this suit, the monster was redesigned in the v1.2 release to resemble a giant orange salamander. The creature's roar is also changed and the game's box art is redesigned to replace the Godzilla parody with a tornado. In the v1.3 release, the salamander is given a slightly larger and more detailed sprite to fit the revised art style, but its roar (now internally renamed "Monster") is corrupted.

One of the picture frames seen in Chapter 3's Home Sweet Home area contains the phrase "A clap and a half to you. We'll miss you." During the dialogue between Little John and Baloo as part of their Friendship Campaign "Bear Country", they both point out how they each look and sound similar to the other. This is a reference to how they were both voiced by Phil Harris in their respective films, as well as the fact that some of Little John's animations in "Robin Hood" were copied from Baloo's animations in "The Jungle Book".

Sujimon Sensei describes Hawaii as being "blessed by the sun and the moon." Considering that Sujimon Sensei and several other related elements introduced in Yakuza: Like a Dragon are parodies of the Pokémon series, this line is most likely a reference to Pokémon Sun & Moon, which takes place in a region inspired by Hawaii.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles
2
Due to long-standing copyright issues regarding the character Sherlock Holmes brought about by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's estate (which had previously delayed the games' release), the international release of The Great Ace Attorney games changed his name to "Herlock Sholmes". According to series creator Shu Takumi, this was done as an allusion to "Arsène Lupin versus Herlock Sholmes", a story collection by Maurice Leblanc.

Following the announcement of the name "Herlock Sholmes", various memes came about surrounding the character and the circumstances for the renaming in regards to copyright law. This got to the point where major news outlets began covering it, with some noting that the goofy-sounding name "fit with the comedic and sometimes irreverent tone of the Ace Attorney series, even if it does leave a few things lost in translation."
