Originally, the game was going to be titled "Grim Guardians: Demon Purge", but had to have its name changed due to disputes regarding the trademarked term "Grimguard".

On February 16, 2023, the game's creator David Szymanski jokingly announced on Twitter that a film based on Iron Lung was in development, starring YouTubers Markiplier (real name Mark Fischbach) as "John Iron Lung" and Jacksepticeye (Seán McLoughlin) as "The Fish", with a soundtrack by Andrew Hulshult. On March 8, Fischbach revealed that he would be directing, writing, and acting in a film, but did not specify what it was. On April 21, it was revealed to be film adaptation of Iron Lung, with Hulshult doing the film's music. Finally, on May 7, McLoughlin revealed on Twitter that he would appear in the film as well, bringing the original joke tweet full circle.

After making only three games (Moon: Remix RPG Adventure, UFO: A Day in the Life, and L.O.L.: Lack of Love), Love-de-Lic folded in 2000, with many of its staff members going on to work for other companies. These include:
• Skip Ltd., a company with a close relationship to Nintendo, who published all their Japanese releases (with the exception of LOL, which was published by Skip themselves). They eventually changed their name to Skip Inc. and became inactive on social media, leading to reports that the company had gone defunct, something that was ultimately confirmed true by former employee Hiroshi Moriyama on Twitter in March 2024.
• Vanpool, who were known primarily for their work on the Dillon's Rolling Western series and co-developing the Kirby series starting with Super Kirby Clash. They were ultimately shut down on May 31, 2023.
• Punchline, who only developed two games (Chulip and Rule of Rose) before shutting down as well.
Later, several former staff members from Love-de-Lic such as Yoshiro Kimura, Kazuyuki Kurashima, and Hirofumi Taniguchi would go on to join Onion Games, where they not only released a port of Moon to modern consoles, but also gave it an official English release for the first time.

In the Undertale sixth anniversary livestream, Toby Fox stated that the scene in Chapter 1 where Susie holds off from attacking Kris due to her respect for Toriel was inspired by a real encounter with a bully that he had. According to Fox, the bully knew his mother and stated that they would've beaten him up if she wasn't nice to them.

In May 2024, the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) fined Epic Games €1,125,000 for using "unfair commercial practices" aimed at children in Fortnite. The investigation found that Epic Games "exploited [the] vulnerabilities" of children through design choices in the game's Item Shop. Examples include the use of demanding phrases like "get it now" or "buy now" on certain advertisements, which the ACM deemed an "illegal aggressive commercial practice", as well as countdown timers that were used on some ads for items still available in the shop after the countdown ended, exploiting a fear of missing out by making items that were still available for sale falsely seem scarce. Epic Games immediately made changes to the game in response to this report, including removing countdown timers worldwide and adding time indicators for shop refreshes and item removal dates. As of May 24, 2024, players under 18 years of age in the Netherlands can only see items available for 48 hours or more in the store. However, the company still planned to appeal the decision, claiming that the ACM's findings contain factual errors about how Fortnite and the Item Shop operate.

The first small patch for Crow Country released on May 10th, 2024 merely states "Fixed xenophobic mushroom boys. Ask me about it some time." Tom Vian, technical director at SFB Games, elaborated on this in a Twitter thread stating a bug had been reported through the Steam forums regarding the "mushroom boys" found throughout the game. As it turned out, the config settings regarding the mushroom boys' trigger distance had been stored as text, with said distances using fractional values. This caused issues regarding the computer's native regional style. For example, a French computer would read a "0.4" value as simply "0", making the trigger range impossible to enter. Similarly, a German computer would turn the value into "4", meaning the trigger range could reach halfway across the room. The glitch was fixed by updating the game so that it only used the United Kingdom's configuration settings, as this was how the devs' settings were written, and was why the glitch was never encountered during playtesting (the playtesters were mostly from the UK aside from a few US playtesters).

In the Japanese dub, upon meeting Eiji Mitamura for the first time on the plane, Eiji will tell Ichiban the French phrase "Bon voyage" (usually translated to English as "have a nice trip"). In the English dub, this was changed to the Hawaiian phrase "a hui hou" (translated to English as "until we meet again") to fit with the Hawaiian setting of the game.

Although Chapter 1 was given a surprise release in 2018, with Toby Fox giving no prior public indications of its existence, Deltarune had been teased in secret since at least 2015. Three months after Undertale released, the fan site DeltaRune.com announced that it would be rebranding to Dreemurr.com at Fox's request; Fox didn't tell the owners of Dreemurr.com why he didn't want them to use the domain. However, after the fan site fulfilled his request, Fox used deltarune.com to host an image called him.png, a passage of Wingdings text only readable by turning up the brightness using image editing software.
While the text initially parroted the phrase "THIS NEXT (space) EXPERIMENT (space) SEEMS (space) VERY (space) VERY (space) INTERESTING" from the unused room_gaster event in Undertale, by July 1, 2016, the text was edited to read "THREE HEROES APPEARED (space) AT WORLD'S EDGE", later being edited again by August 17 to say "THREE HEROES APPEARED (space) TO BANISH THE ANGELS HEAVEN". Both revisions quote portions of the legend that Ralsei recounts in Chapter 1, indicating that these parts of the game's backstory were already conceived by this point.
Following the release of Chapter 1, deltarune.com would be refurbished as the official website for Deltarune itself. Consequently, earlier versions of the site only survive through snapshots on the Wayback Machine, a URL archiving platform hosted by the Internet Archive.

In regards to the game's visuals, director Ryan Vandendyck opted to avoid using a style that was considered common among indie games, stating:
"Basically we felt that the retro pixilated look and the anime-look in RPGs were way over-done, especially in the realm of indie RPGs. Plus, we felt neither of those two really fit a modern setting that well. So we went with a more cartoony style that we think fits the modern, Westernized setting, as well as being something quite unique. As you may guess by the fact that I made Waveform, I like making things not seen in other games! And as soon as we saw Robin’s character designs and the characters brought to life through animation, everyone on the team was sold."

In Volume 5 of his Famitsu column "Toby's Secret Base", creator and director Toby Fox revealed that Ralsei's name came from a period in elementary school where he and his brothers constantly experimented with RPG Maker, having long had a shared interest in game development. Fox's oldest brother spent years working on a game called New Genesis, which featured a protagonist named Ralse; Fox simply appended an "i" to the name when incorporating it into Deltarune years later.
In the same column, Fox stated that the prolonged development of New Genesis discouraged him from making games for a long time. When he finally returned to the field in his teenage years, he sought to temper his expectations from the outset by making smaller-scale titles and preemptively planning out his approach to development to avoid biting off more than he could chew.

In 2013, Valve and the tabletop game company WizKids collaborated to produce an exclusive chess set themed around Team Fortress 2 that was sold on Valve's website and on ThinkGeek. Each copy of the set came with a digital code for a hat called the Grandmaster, where the head piece would change as your killstreak increases. Aside from "Grandmaster" being one of the highest titles awarded to chess players by the International Chess Federation, the hat's item description references a pair of highly publicized chess matches in 1996 and 1997 between former World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov, and IBM's chess-playing computer Deep Blue.

Despite incorporating several elements common in a live-service game (i.e. an in-game store, a battle pass, seasonal events, and premium currency), Skull and Bones was given a price tag of $70. Yves Guillemot, the CEO of Ubisoft, justified this during an investors call before the game's release, stating:
It's worth noting, however, that the game cost $200 million due to its decade-long development, with Ubisoft admitting that they did not think they would be able to break even due to its poor launch. Knowing this, it can be inferred that Ubisoft insisted on referring to Skull and Bones as a "quadruple-A" title not because of the scope of the project, but for how abnormally long it took to produce and raised the price to recoup costs, because this was not the first or only game they called a AAAA title in the past. It was discovered as far back as 2020 on the LinkedIn pages of several Ubisoft employees that they referred to Skull and Bones, the also long-delayed Beyond Good & Evil 2, and later Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, all games with development times lasting at least six years, as AAAA titles in their work experience.
"It's a very big game and we feel that people will really see how vast and complete that game is. So it's a really full triple-A, quadruple-A game that will deliver in the long run."

Cassette Beasts' plot is inspired by isekai, a subgenre of fantasy that revolves around a person being transported to and surviving in another world. However, the game changes normal conventions of the genre by having everyone the player meets in the game also be transported to the island of New Wirral in a similar manner. According to writer Jay Baylis, this was done to allow the team to put focus on the people who are present in the game.

This became a common critique in the game's reviews, leading it to not be received as favorably by some. While The Witch and the Hundred Knight: Revival Edition did not fully fix this glitch, it occurs much less frequently, with playing for extended periods of time being noted as a possible factor.

Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance was originally considered to have a multi-platform release, including a release on the PlayStation 3. According to Nippon Ichi Software president Sohei Niikawa, this was scrapped as this would have made the PS3 version the standard version of the game, whereas the development team wanted to "offer something that could only be done with the PlayStation 4.”
