Drew Carey was a fan of the Sims and also parodied them in an episode of "The Drew Carey Show".

When running The Sims' autoplay, clicking on the Maxis symbol will lead you to a cartoon image of the game's creator, Will Wright, riding on a scooter with Sims all around him.

It has been said that Will Wright was partly inspired to create the Sims after experiencing a house fire that forced him to start reconsidering how he would start to build his life up again, and what his real "needs" actually were.
