In each Dive to the Heart segment in almost every game in the series, there is a disembodied voice that can only speak through text that guides the characters (and thus the player as well) through the tutorial of each game. The identity of these voices has been unidentified in every game but Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (where it is obviously child Sora) and the first Kingdom Hearts. For the latter, in the Kingdom Hearts Ultimania, Nomura was asked who the voice is for the opening of the first game and he finally gave it's identity as being none other than King Mickey. However, this interview was done in the early 2000's before most of the sequels were produced, so it's unknown if this explanation was retconned or not.

Kurohyou 2 features a song which Ukyo can sing in the karaoke mini-game titled "Majima no MajiROCK", which features the voice of Goro Majima and his character profile on the song cover. Goro Majima is a character from the first Yakuza game who has appeared in every single mainline title since, but never made an appearance in either of the Kurohyou spin-offs besides this cameo, implying that he had to have recorded this song himself at some point.

Kan Ogita, Haruka's dance teacher in Yakuza 5 (considered a relatively obscure character) would later have a brief cameo in the prequel game Yakuza 0, where he was one of the opponents Kiryu could face in the Dance Battle minigames.

Apart from a cameo in Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut (where he appears on Sonic X posters during Mission Mode), Sonic X for Leapster marks the only appearance of Sonic X character Chris Thorndyke in a Sonic the Hedgehog video game. Specifically, he appears in the animated cutscenes and cheers Sonic on off-screen each time a math problem is solved.

In Speed Highway, several billboards can be found depicting an unknown female character. In 2020, Satoshi Okano, a former designer at Sega who worked on Sonic Adventure, revealed that this was a scrapped spider character he designed with the prototype name "Spider Girl", and posted an old sketch of the character alongside a sketch of another scrapped character, a bat named "Fly the Vampire". In 2023, Okano posted an inked version of the original Spider Girl sketch from the same time period alongside several inked sketches from the development of Samba de Amigo. Spider Girl's appearance on the billboards in Sonic Adventure suggests that the character lasted far enough into the game's development to receive a 3D model, but the character was ultimately scrapped for unknown reasons, and this 3D model has yet to surface on its own. It's unknown what role either Spider Girl or Fly were intended to have, though fans have noted that Spider Girl has some similarities to Rouge the Bat from Sonic Adventure 2, namely that both characters have large bosoms and prominent heart-based/romantic imagery.

The Tsukimono area in Yakuza 5 features an ice sculpture of Hatsune Miku, a virtual idol likeness owned by Crypton Future Media and licensed out to Sega for video game appearences. Although this might be coincidental rather than an intentional reference, Crypton is located in Sapporo, the same city as Tsukimono.

Ryuu ga Gotoku Kenzan! allows you to briefly play as certain bosses in the series like Majima Gorohachi and Ito Ittosai in certain battle scenarios. This would mark the first time the Yakuza series would allow you to play as a character besides the main protagonist.

Quik & Silva features many plagiarized characters as duplicated enemies, including characters from Nebulus, Bubble Bobble, Contra, and The Great Giana Sisters. Among these characters is Sonic the Hedgehog, whose first title had not released at that point, technically making it Sonic's first appearance in a home console video game, even if unauthorized and predated by the arcade game Rad Mobile.

In the cutscenes for Kat & Ana's stage in WarioWare: Move It!, Cractus from Wario Land 4 appears. This is the first time a Wario Land character has appeared in the cutscenes of a WarioWare game.
In the Japanese version of Move It!, Cractus has a slightly different name from the Cractus that appeared in Wario Land 4.

The Tails Doll from Sonic R can be found in Pinball Carnival Zone Act 2, floating at the end of an exploding rollercoaster. However, the coaster's momentum would make most players automatically speed past and not notice him. When you jump and touch him, he will turn into a gold coin. His inclusion in the haunted level may be a reference to his status as the subject of various creepypastas.

As a reward for contributing a $100+ donation to the game's Kickstarter campaign, backers could choose to join a clan of their choice to appear under in the game's credits. Six "Sword or Whip" Clans (connected to a vote on if Miriam's personal weapon should be a sword or a whip) were dedicated to voting on which Sword or Whip weapon would become the most powerful weapon in the game (the winner being Clan Katana with the Grand Izayoi sword), while the remaining eighteen clans were Community or YouTube Partner Clans, who would receive a code for a clan-specific item.The Community Clans were represented by two Castlevania fan communities: the Dungeon clan (The Castlevania Dungeon forums), and the Operation Akumajo clan (a Castlevania Facebook group spun off from The Castlevania Dungeon dedicated to promoting the series following its 25th anniversary in 2011). The YouTubers and other companies who participated in the last clan group were associated with Fangamer, a video game merchandising company who managed the Kickstarter campaign for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. To unlock one of the Community/YouTube Partner Clan items, you must enter its respective code as the name for your save file, and as such only one clan item can be unlocked per save file. In the 1980s, Tecmo had a short-lived bunny rabbit mascot who would appear standing next to the Tecmo logo in credits sequences and title screens, as well as a rare power-up in Solomon's Key and Mighty Bomb Jack. Expresso the Ostrich from Donkey Kong Country appears as a cameo in Banjo-Pilot - this seems to be an accidental leftover from the game's cancelled iteration as Diddy Kong Pilot, as Nintendo is not mentioned whatsoever in the copyright info for Banjo-Pilot beyond simply licensing the game for its platforms.

When actor Rahul Kohli's likeness was used as a trooper card in the 2023 remake of Like a Dragon: Ishin!, he expressed a feeling that there were notable differences in corresponding with Western and Eastern game studios. In an interview with Digital Trends, he was quoted as saying:
"I definitely saw a difference between working with Western and Eastern studios. Our correspondence with Sega and RGG was so involved and sweet. They really cared, and it felt so much more collaborative. Nothing specific, but when I've been involved in other things, it's like, 'Just do the voice, mate," and then you never hear about it again. I never expected to have the back and forth of RGG constantly checking in to ask, "Is Rahul happy with this? Does he like the artwork?"
